Welcome back to term 4 and a special, warm welcome to Miss Amy Waters who is working in Room 16. We look forward to a busy term packed with learning.
This term our inquiry will be focused on endangered animals : SOS – Save Our Species. Students will be creating information reports about endangered animals and looking at ways that they can make a difference. Additionally, Fun Fridays have begun and we hope your child is enjoying their selected elective.
We have two trips planned this term – one to the Auckland Zoo and the other to Zero Waste Zone. These trips will be reinforcing our classroom learning and are also a great way to celebrate the wonderful behaviour and learning we have seen in Block C. Please note that we do need your support – please ensure your child’s activity fees have been paid for each term. Unfortunately if your child’s activity fee is unpaid they will miss out on these wonderful opportunities. We will be looking for some parent helpers for both of these trips, more information will be sent out soon. Thank you for those that can help out, without your continued support we are unable to have these valuable excursions.
We look forward to a great term of learning.
Block C Teachers
2018 Leadership Roles
Next year will provide opportunities for students to apply for leadership roles. As leaders of the school we expect each student to be fully involved in our BOS community and to take on some sort of leadership or monitoring role.
Coming up very soon, many teachers will be calling for applications for the many differing jobs that will be available in 2018. These range from roles that can be performed during the school day and others that require before and after school commitment.
Please take the time to discuss with your child what their interests are and how they could contribute to our school next year. Classes will be making a list of the different jobs available and will discuss the expectations of each job. Students are expected to write a letter of application for each role they would like to be considered for.
Years 5 and 6 are exciting times for your child! They allow many opportunities for personal growth and it is always pleasing to see each student develop confidence and management skills by being a school monitor or leader.

Keep commenting on your child’s learning on Seesaw, the children really love to see your comments and know that you are getting involved in their learning.
We encourage the children to bring litter-free lunches to school. Please support your child by creating lunches that have no rubbish and consider reuseable containers or bags. We have seen a huge improvement with the litter-free lunches in our whanau and thank you for your support to keep lunch boxes litter-free.
Just a reminder to please ensure your child’s uniform is named, including footwear and under clothing. Naming your child’s uniform makes it a lot easier to find if it goes missing.
Please ensure your child has the correct PE gear and we encourage children to bring this to school on Monday each week and take it home on Friday so it can be washed over the weekend.
Jewellery is not permitted to be worn at school. If your child has a piece of jewellery that has significant meaning e.g. religious, a letter in writing to the Associate Principal explaining the reasons why it must be worn is necessary.
All accessories must be one of the school colours e.g. watches, hair ties, headbands. If your child’s hair touches their shoulders, it must be tied up.
Plain silver or gold studs ONLY are to be worn. Students with coloured studs or sleepers will be asked to remove them. Nail polish is NOT permitted at school.
In Term 4, children MUST wear a hat at playtime and lunchtime. If they do not have a hat, they cannot play outside. We have asked the children to leave their hats at school so that they are always available to them.
Parking and Road Safety
If you are dropping your child off at school or picking them up after school please ensure you follow the school safety guidelines. The drop off zone is for dropping children off, you can not park there for any length of time. There is NO drop off or pick up zone at the back of the school area in Erica Road. Please always use the footpath and do not walk across the carpark even if your child is not with you. When the school crossing is out all parents MUST use the crossing even if your child is not with you. Please ensure you leave the school grounds by 3:10pm as the side gates will be locked from that time.
We have been working with our local constable to ensure children are using their seat belts and using them correctly. Please talk to your children so that they know that their seat belt needs to be fastened before vehicles are moving and that their bags should not be on when they fasten their seat belts.
Lateness and Absence
The music for going to class starts at 8.50am and by this time the children should have arrived in the awhina space, unpacked their bag and be ready in the classroom for the start of the school day. If not, your child is classed as late. They will be asked to go to the office to get a “late pass’ and sign in. Doors to the classrooms open at 8.20am. If you need to drop your child off earlier, then you will need to make arrangements with Creative Kids on 021 663 226
Our last day of school is Friday 15 December and we finish at midday, if you are wishing to take your child out of school early then you must make a written request to our Principal (Mrs Mary Wilson).
