At Baverstock Oaks School, we are fortunate to be able to offer a variety of support programmes for our students:

 

 

 

Learning Support

At Learning Support our role is to support students who need additional help with reading, writing and mathematics. We  provide additional teaching and learning sessions with small groups.

 

ESOL

TScreen Shot 2018-02-11 at 5.16.49 PMhe programmes are fun and the students grow in confidence in a small group with very supportive teachers. These groups are intended for students who were born overseas, as well as students who were born in NZ.

 

Quick 60

Quick 60 is a small group intervention programme for improving student achievement in reading. Lessons focus on phonics, high frequency word recognition and reading mileage.

 

 

Alphabet Group

Screen Shot 2018-02-11 at 5.17.09 PMThe alphabet groups are designed to give new learners of English a solid grasp on English letter names and sounds. These are small groups working with a Learning Assistant and are taught 2 – 3 times a week.

 

Talk to Learn

Talk to Learn groups are for our Year One students. These are fun, interactive  groups that focus on oral language and developing  confidence in spoken English. We develop new vocabulary through exciting topics.

 

Term 1 Theme: ‘This is me…’ we are curious and eager to learn about ourselves, our families, our school and community!

Favourite pastimes: Digging for treasures when doing my Bible reading, cooking for and with my children, Bootcamp (when I can make the 5.15 am start!)

In 2018, I am looking forward to: Putting into practice all the wonderful and useful skills gained from the ELA course in 2017, when working with our new learners of English and students in need of English language support.
