Dear Parents and Caregivers of Baverstock Oaks School
Greetings, Kia ora, Fakaalofa Lahi atu, Bula vinaka, Malo e lelei, Talofa lava, Taloha,
Kia orana, Ni hao, Buenos dias, Chao, Malo ni, Habari dobar dan, Namaste, Salam.
What a busy few weeks we have had with many exciting trips for our students, our Tall Oaks athletics, our recognition of Parihaka Day, Grandparents’ Day, Kate Keenan’s farewell along with many exciting in-class learning activities.
Last night I attended the annual Kids for Kids Choir event. This year we had the largest choir ever with 80 students participating. What a wonderful event. Thanks must go to Emma Pottinger who spent hours working with the group to prepare them. They all represented our school so well.
Last week I had the pleasure of attending Ormiston Senior College’s Year 13 prize giving. It is always a very proud moment to watch past Baverstock Oaks Students receiving awards. This year the Flatbush 7 Scholarship was won by Brendan Hua. Brendan always showed promise while attending Baverstock Oaks School. At a young age, he displayed exceptional leadership skills but above all had the work ethic and humility to achieve well. Congratulations Brendan. The Flatbush 7 Scholarship is open to any student who has completed all of their schooling in the Flatbush 7 schools. The recipient wins a scholarship of $6,000 to go towards their tertiary education.

Tall Oaks Athletics Day
We held our school athletics day on Tuesday 29 October in windy, but fine conditions. We had a fabulous time on the field taking part in sprints, high jump, long jump and shot put, along with non-competitive activities on the bottom field. The finalists have now been selected for the interschool athletics, which will be held on Wednesday 20 November. Good luck to all of our athletes!
On the 5th of November, the Travelwise group went to the spark arena to celebrate the amazing year of helping school be more travel safe. We started with a ride in the school minibus then a free ride on the train into Britomart station. Once we got there we had an opening ceremony where they handed certificates to the different schools based on how well we used travelwise around our school.
After the ceremony we participated in carnival games like ring toss, spot the difference, ping pong and other fun games. We then had QR code scavenger hunt where the travelwise monitors had to scan riddles to get letters for sentence card that would be put into a prize box. The travelwise girls then went back to the stadium to have prizegiving. Sadly our school did not win anything and then we decided to head back to school.
We had such a fun day and we would like to thank Mrs Drury for organising and taking us on this great trip
Omana Beach Clean Up Trip
On Wednesday 6 November, 100 ESOL and Quick 60 students, along with the Life skills group, travelled to Omana Beach and reserve for the day.
We have been talking about looking after our oceans and becoming “Keepers of the Coast and Ocean”. So we took some large sacks to the beach to do a “Clean up”. We found so much rubbish on the beach and reserve, like fireworks, plastic bottles, glass, rusty metal, plastic bags and paper straws. For some children, it was their first visit to a beach!
After the clean up, we had a scavenger hunt and a play on an awesome playground. We even saw some sheep and goats and lots of beautiful birds. It was perfect weather for our trip and we would like to thank all the lovely parents and grandparents who helped us on the day.
