Staffing Update
Our school has a very large staff of 75 and I would like to thank them for their dedication and work ethic over this unprecedented year.
As expected in a large staff such as ours there will be some movement. At the end of this year we have the following staff taking on new adventures.
Kellie Srivastava
Kellie has been at our school for 5 years and in this time had a year’s maternity leave. Kellie has secured a job at St Heliers Primary which is much closer to her home and her husband’s work. The commute from where they live to Baverstock was taking far too long especially when having to juggle day care times. Thank you Kellie for all you have contributed to our school and you will be missed.
Lynette Radue
Lynette Radue has been a teacher at our school for the past 6 years in our reception class. Thank you for all you have done in successfully welcoming our youngest students and making their transition such a smooth one and ensuring our new 5-year-olds feel happy and safe. Lynette is going to spend more time with her lovely family and have precious grandchildren time. I am sure you will treasure the opportunity to have this time with your family. Thank you for all you have contributed to Baverstock Oaks.
Jasmine Tito
Jasmine Tito has taught at Baverstock Oaks for the last 5 years and she has been offered a wonderful opportunity to take on a new role as a Learning Support Coordinator at Rowandale Primary. Jasmine, you will be missed at Baverstock Oaks School as you have offered so much not only as a classroom teacher but also in establishing our wonderful Pasifika group. Not only have you brought our Pasifika culture to the stage but more importantly you have provided all the students involved with a true sense of identity and pride in their culture.
Ashley Stratton
Ashley Stratton who has taught at Baverstock Oaks for the last 3 years is also moving on at the end of this year. Ashley and her fiancé are now living in West Auckland and as the commute from there is a long one she has secured a job at Birdwood School and we wish her all the best in her new role.
Samantha Brown
Samantha Brown also leaves us this year as she has secured a role at Meadowbank Primary a 5-minute walk from her home. We were extremely fortunate to have Samantha this year to take over Room 7 after Mrs. Silipa left. Thank you, Samantha, for all the fun and energy you have brought to our place. We wish you all the best in your new school.
Carla Wang
Carla Wang has been one of our Learning Assistants who has been here for the past three years. Recently she set up our very successful bi-lingual unit. Carla leaves to welcome her new addition into their family in a few weeks. Thank you Carla for all you have contributed.
Cheryl Macdonald
Cheryl Macdonald has secured a position at Farmcove Intermediate School for 2021, we wish Cheryl all the very best with her new position and we are sure she will enjoy intermediate school life. Cheryl has been a teacher for 5 years at Baverstock Oaks School and has contributed much to being a member of the Y6 Whānau and has passionately led the area of Enviro. Thank you Cheryl for all you have done and we wish you all the best.
Rush Naidoo
Rush Naidoo joined us at the beginning of 2019 and chose to start her career at Baverstock Oaks, extra special as she is a past pupil as well! Rush has been successful in winning a position at Robertson Road School. We wish Rush all the very best for 2021 and the continued journey with her career.
We also have welcomed this term 2 new Learning Assistants, Anne-Marie Hartley, and Lisa Te Wao. Lisa and Anne-Marie have quickly settled into the Baverstock Oaks family and bring a wealth of knowledge into our school.
Staff Only Days
As you may recall during the teacher settlement in 2019 the Ministry of Education allocated 8 Staff Only Days to be allocated over this year and the next 2 years. In 2020 due to COVID we were only able to utilise two of these days. Our Staff Only Days have been allocated for 2021 so please put these dates in your calendar now to avoid any confusion next year:
Tuesday 9 February – All staff will be involved in First Aid training
Tuesday 8 June – Staff professional development
Tuesday 26 October – Assessment Professional Development
As you can see these Staff Only Days are scheduled around long weekends.
Many thanks to all the support families continue to provide our school.
Kia kaha – be strong
Kia aroha – be kind and compassionate

Interschool Chess Tournament
Tuesday 10th November, the Baverstock Oaks Chess Team of 14 students ventured off to Point View School for the East Auckland Primary Interschool Chess Tournament. There were 8 schools in total competing. There were some amazing, experienced players in the mix. The Baverstock Oaks Team were excited to finally get to a tournament after the 2 earlier competitions having been cancelled due to the two COVID lockdown requirements. It was tough competition, but the Baverstock Team competed with grace, integrity and with such a great attitude. Although we didn’t win any awards, we had a fun day made the school very proud with their amazing team spirit and attitude.
Epro8
Have you ever been bored at the supermarket and wanted to race your trolley? This was one of the challenges that our teams chose to undertake at the Epro8 semi finals this year. All of the challenges offered by Epro8 cover aspects of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics or STEAM as it is known. This year was a little different due to Covid with an in-house selection process using the fabulous new equipment that our school had purchased last year. After an exciting morning of competition at the semi finals we proudly finished with 2nd and 4th place and our BOS Machines team were heading for the Grand Finals competition!
Year 5 & Year 6 Basketball
We have been very fortunate this term to secure a basketball coach for our Year 5 and 6 students. Mr Blake Bennet has given up his Friday mornings to volunteer and coach at Baverstock Oaks. We had 48 children turn up on the first session and now have around 30 children who regularly attend the coaching sessions. They are currently learning a variety of skills including dribbling, shooting, catching and ball control. Each session begins with the fundamentals of the game, followed by skill development, and finishes with a game against each other.
We are extremely grateful to Blake for giving up his time and providing an opportunity for many students who have shown a keen interest in this sport. We are also proud of all the students who have shown commitment to turning up at 8.00am each Friday.
Year 6 Graduation
On Tuesday 24 November we celebrated the Year 6 graduation. We began the evening with a delicious dinner of burgers, followed by dessert and then our families joined us for the formal ceremony. Everybody looked fantastic and we had a great evening. A huge thank you to Mrs Brown and Mrs Macdonald for their organisation of the evening, thank you also to the Year 6 teachers, members of the board, the senior leadership whānau, and our own whānau members for celebrating with us on the night.
Grand Finals Epro8
For the first time ever, this year one of our Epro8 teams made it through to the Epro8 Grand Finals! The competition was held at Mt Roskill Intermediate School last Friday 27th November. The challenge they chose was to ‘Pimp Your Toilet’. In this challenge they were required to create the toilet, put the toilet seat down, wash their hands, turn the lights off and clear the air by releasing air freshener. Against tough competition the team battled fairly and competitively and created an amazing ‘pimped up toilet’. Well done to the Neil, Neil, Mayin and Abel for their fantastic dedication to the challenge. You certainly did yourselves and Baverstock proud.
HPPA Interschool Athletics Competition
On Friday 27th November a number of Year 3, 4 5 and 6 students represented Baverstock Oaks School at the HPPA Interschool Athletics Competition. Congratulations to those students who attended who represented our school displaying all Baverstock Oaks values.
